Screen Implosion is a games label and producer of classic arcade games with a contemporary twist. Looking for retro evolved gameplay.
Screen Implosion is an independent developer and editor funded in 2015 in Berlin. Miguel Alvarez, the developer behind is a game developer from Spain based in Berlin. Miguel has a background as game designer in various companies within the industry (Gameloft, Ubisoft...) and is core collaborator of A maze/ Berlin festival. Since his first computer landed home, a humble ZX Spectrum, he used to swap mixtapes with games at school. Those with lots of strange games, many of them unplayable, set in few colours and glitchy graphics. He was bewitched by their iconography. His 128Kb micro-computer was a window to the mainstream games but also to the underground ones. Meanwhile, in his neighbourhood were a community of heavy thrash guys, with long hair and skinny jeans. Some of the young guys used to pass him some grindcore mixtapes with songs of about 1 minute long each. Screen Implosion games try to keep a relationship with the past. It started 2 years ago as a prototype to experiment with code snippets. After having made few little games before, Miguel wanted to follow up on the shooter genre. Shooters and shmups are great to start programming your own games. They involve lots of basics, and they are fun to test. Screen Implosion believes that this mix of features would be interesting for a little community out there. Those who appreciate productions no matter if they are commercially good looking but with some roots. Those still engaged with shoot’em ups, retro and independent games who experienced the golden era of 80’s science-fiction and music genres like metal that evolved in parallel with home computers.
